- Using the theme of the newspaper, this junior-level course covers American literature written between the Early American period up to the present. The selection of literature ranges from fiction and poetry to speeches, sermons, letters, and journals. Students will see where this literature fits in relation to the events and culture of the time period.

This course seeks to expand a student's personal, social, literary and historical vision. Freshman Survey will provide students with activities which highlight many types of vision, including: foresight, tunnel vision, double vision, blurred vision, x-ray vision, and insight. The idea of vision will control each activity and also extend into the community, as students participate in GLOBAL VIEW, a cultural community arts project.
